What does a roofer do?
Roofers like ourselves here at Fascia Rite Roofing are commonly known to do the installation and repair of roofs which are usually made from of a combination of different materials. Some of these materials include asphalt, gravel, tar, shingles, thermoplastic and metal. All of these materials have been made in a way that they are able to protect buildings as well as the contents that are inside, from any water damage that may take place. Having a roof that is leaking can bring about a number of problems like severe damage to the walls, the ceilings as well as the furnishings. The majority of work that many roofers tend to work on include a number of things like the replacing, repairing and re-roofing of old roofs.
Different Types of Roof
When it comes to the main types of roofs that most roofers tend to work with, they are mainly of two types. They include:
- Low-slope which is the type of roofs that tend to rise either four inches or less which is measured in thehorizontal They are also most commonly installed in different layers.
- Steep-slope. This is the type of roof which is normally covered in shingles and are usually not more than four inches when it is measured in its normal horizontal foot.
Many industrial, commercial and apartment buildings tend to make use of low-slope roofs while steep-slope roofs are most common with residential houses. However, there are some cases in which different roofers may opt to work with both types of roofs while others are very keen when it comes to specifying.
Low Slope Roofing Services
Most of the low-slope type of roofs are usually covered in a number of layers of material. What happens is that the roofer will first begin by installing the first layer of insulation which will be done on the roof deck. Once this is done, the roofer will then go ahead and apply what is known as molten bitumen which is a tarlike substance; this application is going to be done over their entire surface of the roof. Roofers are then going to make use of a mop so as to spread evenly the very hot bitumen over the felt. This spreading is going to be done very keenly until the next layer is added on the felt. This application is essential since it is what is going to seal the seams and make the roof surface waterproof. The entire step is going to be repeated by the roofer until the desired number of layers has been reached, and the roofer feels satisfied. Once the application is complete, the top layer is then going to be glazed so as to make a smooth finishing or rather ensure that the hot bitumen has been embedded properly to make sure that the surface is rough.
